We've Got One Screwed Up Legal System

We've Got One Screwed Up Legal System

By Ken Schram

SEATTLE - We've all heard it: There's no respect for the law.

I wonder how much that has to do with legislators who pass bad ones; defense lawyers who constantly look for ways to undermine them; prosecutors who would rather plea bargain than enforce them, and judges who come with asinine ways to interpret them.

Take our State Supreme Court, for example.

The jurists there say the dirtbag who stomped and kicked a 2-year-old child to death didn't really mean to kill the toddler.

He only meant to assault her.

Same for the animal that killed Kristopher Kime.

The guy may have used a skateboard to bludgeon Chris' head during Mardi Gras, but that doesn't mean he murder was his intent.

What a crock.

With that kind of thinking, I can almost hear our State Supreme Court saying that Al-Qaida didn't mean to destroy the World Trade Center.

They "only" intended to crash the planes.

No respect for the law?

I think it's more that we've lost respect for those who are supposed to preserve and uphold the law.

They're the ones who've let what is legal move too far away from what most of us know is right.
